Funk, rock, and soul sensation War is an eight-member band that rose to prominence during the ‘70s with popular singles “The Cisco Kid,” “Low Rider,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” and “The World is a Ghetto.” The band has been known for infusing various genres, such as jazz, psychedelia soul, funk, R&B, Latin, and reggae. In 1972, the band dropped the best-selling album of the year, The World is a Ghetto. The fifth effort entered the Billboard chart and dominated the Billboard 200 and R&B charts. The record spawned two hit singles, “The Cisco Kid,” which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “The World is a Ghetto,” which charted at number 7. The record later earned a gold certification after selling over 500,000 copies, and Rolling Stone listed the album as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
The next year, War dropped their follow-up effort, Deliver the World, which peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and topped the R&B chart. The album featured iconic hits “Me and Baby Brother” and “Gypsy Man,” which entered the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 8. In 1975, the band released their seventh album, Why Can’t We Be Friends, which spawned the highly-popular title track. The song is popularly known for being used during NASA’s linking American astronauts and Soviet Cosmonauts in outer space. War moved on to release several more records. Their latest effort Evolutionary was released in 2014.
Sixties sensations, The Rascals, belt out several soul staples, such as “Good Lovin,” “People Got to Be Free,” “Groovin’,” “How Can I Be Sure,” and “A Beautiful Morning.” The band made their breakthrough in 1966 with their self-titled debut effort, The Young Rascals. The record, which spawned “I Ain’t Gonna Eat My Heart Out Anymore” and “Good Lovin,” peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200 and number 10 on the Cashbox. The band released seven more highly-acclaimed efforts until 1972 when they released their last studio album, The Island of Real.
After the dissolution of Sly and the Family Stone, the band decided to carry on without their lead singer. The band has become one of the most listened soul, funk, and psychedelic icons for two decades. In 1968, they released their first number-1 hit, “Everyday People,” which topped the Billboard 200 and the R&B chart. The gold-selling track was spawned by their fourth album, Stand! The following year, they released another number song, “Thank you (Falettinme Be NMice Elf Agin)/ Everybody is a Star.” The song topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B chart and later earned gold in the U.S.
